The site where, centuries ago, the settlement Irminlo came into
being, was, until the beginning of this century, the location of
Connexxion’s bus depot. Before this transport company parted
with this location, Johan Fieten created a urban development
blueprint at the request of Assen Projekten. Historic elements,
such as 't Weitje (the meadow) with the band stand, opposite the
Huis van Barmhartigheid (House of Mercy), the Zendingskerk
(Mission Church), and the mill De Koe (The Cow) stemming from
1863, had to be preserved in their original appearance as much
as possible, or renovated. All this in harmony with an optimal
functioning of new purposes, such as shops, parking spaces and
apartments. In this the explicit choice was made to apply
historicized architecture. After an architect selection, organized
by Johan Fieten, PBV Architecten from Wassenaar worked out
the building plans in accordance with this concept.
Ufkes Apeldoorn realized the construction.
